A decision path for your cabinet update

  • Keep
    Which components are you retaining?
  • Assess
Is their condition suitable for painting?
  • Define
Which faces, edges and interiors are included?
  • Plan
How will the household use the kitchen?
  • Care
What finish-specific instructions will you need?
Request a Winnetka cabinet estimate
Tell Brush & Bright which cabinets you want to retain and what you want changed. Request a Winnetka estimate through the form, call 224-395-4544 or email brushandbrightpaint@gmail.com. Describe condition concerns and the components to include; phone entry is optional.
SMS consent is optional. Leave the checkbox unchecked if you do not wish to receive text messages. Read our Privacy Policy.
Compare refinishing options with the cabinets you have
Decide whether the concern is color or function
A color update will not make a swollen panel sound or correct a door that fails mechanically. Describe loose surfaces, damage and any lifting finish, along with the material if known. Components may need separate assessment before painting is accepted. This inquiry is not a replacement or refacing quote.

Describe the result with a component list
A useful request might specify door faces and edges, drawer fronts and exposed frames, with interiors unchanged. State your own boundaries rather than assuming that example fits. Include visible end panels and the island where relevant. Hardware changes or relocated holes need a separate discussion, not an automatic allowance.

Agree on appearance before committing to color
Look at the grain, texture and previous repairs you can see now. Ask what will remain visible after the proposed preparation; a color change does not promise a factory-smooth surface. Discuss cleaning, coating compatibility and any adhesion evaluation needed. Do not scrape or sand unknown finishes to prepare for the estimate.

Work out how the kitchen will be used
Explain which storage and kitchen functions you rely on. Ask what needs emptying, how doors and fronts will be managed, where work occurs and what adjacent surfaces need protection. Confirm handling, reassembly and cleaning guidance for the chosen coating. Touch-dry appearance alone does not establish readiness for ordinary use.

Planning cabinets and laminate floors together?
Identify the cabinets and fixed units that stay, the proposed laminate product, rooms and transitions. Clarify where each scope starts and stops, then coordinate access, protection and readiness. Product-specific layout must be resolved without assuming a floating floor can be trapped beneath fixed cabinetry. Cabinet removal or reinstallation is not automatically included. Painting remains separate from hardware or operating repairs.

  • Can every cabinet material be painted?
No. Share known material and coating information; suitability must be assessed rather than assumed from a photograph.
  • Why discuss preparation if cabinets look clean?
Residue and the retained coating can affect adhesion. Ask how cleaning and compatibility will be addressed for your surfaces.
  • Will new hardware be included?
Only if explicitly agreed. Replacement hardware and hole changes are separate scope decisions.
  • When can I close doors and clean them?
Request finish-specific instructions. Handling, reassembly and cleaning can have different restrictions; there is no universal timetable.
