Use the current Village project resources
The Inverness Building Department provides separate links for projects requiring a permit, construction information and inspections. Start there when asking about a home improvement rather than relying on an old saved form or a general description such as minor repairs. Give the full address and distinguish an adjustment, a localized repair and an alteration. If several tasks belong to a larger remodel, say so; a handyman estimate for individual components is not a scope for the whole renovation.
Inverness Building Department and project resources
Prepare a short problem history
For each interior door, trim section or cabinet door, note where it is, what happens in normal use and when you first noticed the problem. Mention earlier adjustments without dismantling anything. For drywall, record approximate dimensions, whether the area is dry and whether the damage has returned. Changes over time may matter more than a close-up photo alone. Unresolved moisture or movement needs appropriate assessment before cosmetic work; structural repairs, plumbing and electrical work are outside the six groups.
Paint-disturbing work is limited to homes verified as built in 1979 or later. Include the construction year and its source; renovation dates do not replace verification of the home’s construction year. We do not accept paint-disturbing work in pre-1979 or unverified homes.
Windows and doors are limited to suitable existing openings, with no structural enlargement or fire-rated door installation. Lock hardware is incidental to an agreed repair only; no standalone locksmith service. Applicable permit and licensing requirements must be checked before scope and scheduling are agreed.
Separate ready-to-install products from items needing decisions
For furniture assembly, supply model numbers, instructions, box condition, parts status and final room. Required anti-tip attachment needs suitable support. For rods, pictures and mirrors, show dimensions, weights, supplied fittings and intended locations. Mark any undecided layout or product rather than assuming it can be chosen during installation. Tell us about obstacles, access restrictions and items that must be moved. Removal, disposal and wall-hole finishing are separate scope questions.
Give laminate a complete room description
Identify the exact laminate product and current instructions, floor area, existing surface, transitions and retained trim. Include known unevenness, movement or dampness without lifting old materials to investigate. Substrate suitability and product-specific moisture, underlayment and movement requirements must be reviewed. Agree material supply and room clearance, then define the edges and finishing work. Laminate is not a blanket offer for every wood-look floor, and structural subfloor repair or moisture remediation is not included.

For any work that may disturb paint, provide the home’s construction year and the source used to verify it. Only verified 1979-or-newer homes are eligible for paint-disturbing work. Photos and task details help define materials, preparation and finish boundaries before scope and scheduling are agreed; concealed conditions may need an on-site assessment.
