An elevation-by-elevation exterior painting scope

Brush & Bright reviews your Rolling Meadows exterior by surface and location, identifying suitable materials, preparation and details that need to be named in the estimate.
  • Front elevation
Show the whole front and identify siding, door surrounds and accents you want included.
  • Side and rear elevations
Photograph every additional side so access and coating condition are represented in the estimate.
  • Siding suitability
Share known material and coating information; an unfamiliar surface needs assessment before painting is proposed.
  • Exterior door faces
State which door faces, edges and frames should receive a finish rather than assuming the whole door assembly is included.
  • Trim inventory
Mark window surrounds and other paintable boards by location so small details are not overlooked.
  • Protection and access
Show glass, retained finishes, landscaping and outdoor belongings immediately beside the work.

Create a useful exterior photo checklist
Start with a complete view of each side
For your Rolling Meadows exterior estimate, take one overall photo of the front, rear and each side you want painted. Label them by location so close-up images can be matched to the right surface. Include the space next to the building as well as the wall itself. An overall view helps explain the extent of the repaint, while a list beneath each image can identify siding, trim, door frames and accents. Leave out areas you do not want quoted or mark them clearly as unchanged.

Add details that the overall view misses
Next, photograph peeling coating, weathered edges and transitions between different materials. Include any high trim or surfaces partly hidden by attached features. Explain what you know about previous products and whether a problem has returned after an earlier repaint. Photos help prepare the discussion but cannot establish that every substrate is suitable for paint. Where material or coating compatibility is uncertain, assessment comes before a finish recommendation. Soft material and ongoing moisture need separate attention rather than another layer of paint.

Name doors and trim explicitly
A request to paint the siding does not automatically include every door and window surround. List the details you want refreshed and identify the door faces, frames or return edges involved. Decide where the new finish stops against retained masonry, glass and factory-finished components. Compare colors with the roof and other surfaces that will stay unchanged. If one feature keeps an older coating, consider how it will appear beside the new finish rather than assuming the same color name will produce an exact visual match.

Use the checklist to review the proposal
The estimate should connect included elevations and details to preparation, finish choices and access arrangements. Discuss items that need moving and any spaces that must remain usable during the work. Timing depends on the scope and suitable coating conditions, so mention your target dates without treating them as a guarantee of uninterrupted exterior work. After painting, use the same list to review the agreed areas. Future maintenance needs will depend on the materials, existing condition, exposure and selected coating; no fixed lifespan can be inferred from the color or the size of the house. If a photograph leaves a requested detail out of view, describe its location in the accompanying notes so it is checked rather than inadvertently omitted from the estimate.

  • How many exterior photos should I send?
Include an overall view of each side to be painted and close-ups of defects or difficult details. Clear location labels are more helpful than an arbitrary photo count.
  • Are exterior doors included with siding painting?
Only if specified. Identify door faces, frames and other details separately in the estimate request.
  • Can photographs confirm that siding is paintable?
They can help with an initial review, but material, condition and coating compatibility may require further assessment before a finish is recommended.
  • How long will the new exterior finish last?
That depends on the substrate, preparation, coating and exposure. A fixed service life cannot be promised from a general description of the house.
