Define the deck finishing scope

Separate requested components from surfaces that stay unchanged.
  • Desired appearance
Describe color and visible wood preferences.
  • Walking surfaces
    Identify boards, steps and landings.
  • Vertical components
    List rails, balusters and posts.
  • Edges and faces
Specify fascia, risers and visible sides.
  • Current condition
    Report concerns and known repairs.
  • Household needs
Explain clearance, protection and essential access.

Questions for the estimate

    Explain the appearance you want.
  • Review
    Identify material and coating uncertainties.
  • Bound
    List included and retained faces.
  • Coordinate
    Discuss protection and access needs.
  • Clarify
    Request use and cleaning guidance.
Request a Wilmette deck estimate
Request a Wilmette deck estimate through the form, call 224-395-4544 or email brushandbrightpaint@gmail.com. Include the address, desired change, components and known concerns. Name and email are required; phone is optional. If you have safe overview photos, ask how to share them.
SMS consent is optional. Leave the checkbox unchecked if you do not wish to receive text messages. Read our Privacy Policy.
Start with the change, then check what can support it
A request for a lighter or more grain-visible appearance does not establish that the existing coating can accept that change. Tell us whether the deck has been painted or stained, if known. Bare-looking patches may still have coating history. Do not assume stripping, transparent conversion or an identical appearance between older and replacement boards is included.

Make the estimate component-specific
Define the floor separately from stair treads, risers, landings, rails and posts. Mark fascia and exposed edges if wanted; hidden faces and dismantling are not automatic inclusions. Note materials component by component. This is a suitable-wood finishing inquiry, not an offer to refinish composite or PVC. Manufacturer restrictions and walking-surface suitability need consideration rather than assumptions from a railing product.

Resolve readiness before treating the project as cosmetic
Mention peeling, soft-looking material, loose elements or moisture that keeps returning. A new finish does not correct those problems, and necessary repair or replacement is not an assumed painting service. Some surfaces may need to remain outside the coating scope. Do not scrape, probe or sand an unknown finish to supply information for an estimate.

Ask what the accepted work and handover will cover
Discuss cleaning, preparation and sanding appropriate to the accepted surface and chosen coating. Agree protection of adjacent materials, furniture and planter movement, and an access plan. Application relies on suitable actual conditions. Ask when walking, furniture placement and cleaning are appropriate under the selected product instructions. For finish comparisons, use the linked deck stain versus paint guide.

  • Can floor and rail finishes be discussed separately?
Yes. Each component needs its own material, condition and use considered.
  • What if the previous product is unknown?
Say so. Assessment should resolve suitability before preparation is agreed.
  • Does paint eliminate wood texture?
Do not assume it does. Discuss the appearance you can reasonably expect.
  • Is a dry-looking deck ready for furniture?
Not necessarily. Ask for activity-specific guidance for the selected coating.
